Turmeric Mocha Morning Smoothie

Short on time in the morning? Why not combine your coffee and breakfast all in one! This tasty smoothie will leave you feeling energized and ready to take on the day! It’s loaded with nutrition, a little caffeine, plus it contains turmeric, a functional spice with anti-inflammatory benefits. When combined with black pepper, curcumin (the anti-inflammatory compound found in turmeric) becomes ~2,000 times more bioavailable. This smoothie can be modified to suit a variety of dietary preferences and needs (see “other variations” below for just a few!).

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • Pinch of black pepper

  • 1/2 cup frozen riced cauliflower

  • 1/2 frozen banana

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I used Nuzest Clean Lean Protein in rich chocolate flavor)

  • 1 Tbsp almond butter

  • 2 tsp freeze dried coffee

  • ~3/4 cup unsweetened milk of choice, or just enough to blend (I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk)

    Optional:

  • 1 Tbsp cacao nibs to blend in or for topping

Other variations:

  • Without protein powder (dairy): omit protein powder, add 1 Tbsp cacao powder and substitute skim milk for unsweetened almond milk

  • Without protein powder (dairy-free): omit protein powder, omit almond butter, add 1 Tbsp cacao powder and 3 Tbsp hemp seeds, increase banana to 1 frozen banana
