Mocha Frappe Protein Smoothie

This protein-packed mocha frappe is low in sugar, and in my opinion, tastes even better than the kind you’d order at a coffee shop! No sugar crash, and the protein in this recipe helps to promote stable blood sugar all morning long. You can easily whip it up in just a few minutes, and add any additional flavorings you like.

The Koia protein shake serves as the liquid base and provides sweetness and chocolatey flavor, while the cacao powder and cacao nibs add even more richness, plus fiber and antioxidants. The chia seeds and frozen riced cauliflower thicken the texture while adding a healthy dose of gut microbiome-supporting fiber. I also used frozen banana for extra sweetness and a thicker, frozen texture. While I used decaf espresso here, regular espresso, cold brew coffee, or any strong brewed coffee would all work well too!

Ingredients:

  • Koia Cacao Bean plant-based protein shake

  • Double shot of espresso (I used a decaf Nespresso pod, but any will work! Can also use brewed coffee - let it cool or refrigerate until cold before blending)

  • 1 Tbsp cacao powder

  • 1 Tbsp cacao nibs

  • Shake of cinnamon to taste

  • 1/3 cup frozen riced cauliflower

  • 1/2 of a small frozen, sliced banana

  • 2 tsp ground chia seeds
